LEVEL: EASY. PROGRAM NEEDED: 3DMAX R2+. Author: [ teknoledge ]

[ comment ]

This tutorial explain how to apply textures on object you've created. It a nice step for those who have little knowledge of 3d studiomax.

*** Note: 3DSMAX is kinda hard to use when you dont master everything in it, so in this tutorial, I will try to explain every step clearly.

(***) the *** in the step text are the part where the picture show the result of it so far. Start:

[ first step]

click to download

Let the session begin. Into your OBJECT TAB, choose the object to apply the texture on. I've decide to make a stone block. ( *** )So I choosed a square.

[ second step. ]

click to download

Easy as it is, i will apply the stone texture to my block. Press (M) to open the material editor.( *** )Select the first sphere.

[ third step ]

click to download

Yes, the magical part is coming! :) Create some object . The object you want, it doesnt matter. It those object who will make your artworks trendy! I choose to create cube. (Note: The object can be found in the OBJECT TAB) Make a selection of all this cube, and choose a color.( The color is in the righter tab, in NAME AND COLOR, the colored square)

[ fourth step ]

click to download

Now, we gonna select the right texture to apply. Scroll down to the MAPS tab of the current sphere we've choosed. Open this tab.( *** )We will only pay attention to DIFFUSE COLOR AND BUMP.

Explainations: DIFFUSE COLOR: diffuse color is the stack where the textures you choose will be show as the chosen SPHERE skin.

BUMP: Bump is the stack that make the sphere look like the texture you've apply. Like noise, if you apply it, the sphere will look crappy with hole and bump section.

[ fourth step ]

click to download

Check diffuse color box, and click on the bevel button (none) to choose witch texture we gonna apply. A big window appear.( *** )Select in the left area: MTL LIBRARY If you dont have this option, please contact us in the board. I've choosed the DIFFUSE COLOR MAP #9 ( GRYDIRT2.JPG ). Now our sphere will look like a rock ball.

NOTE that you can put the texture you want to have different result from me. The rock block is just an example to show you how texture work a bit.

[ fifth step ]

click to download

Now you should be in the MAP #9 STACK, (See under the sphere, it writed MAP#9) Change it to material #1, our first material. Return in the MAPS tab, and check BUMP box. Click on the same button to the right of the checked box to select a file to bump with. ( *** ) I choose NOISE in the NEW section. Not MTL LIBRARY this time :) click ok to jump to the final step. You can now see that our sphere in the thumbnail, look a bit bumped :)

[ sixth step ]

click to download

Final part, we gonna apply this material to our object (My square).
( *** ) Well simply drag the thumbnail picture to you object. TALAM, the texture is now apply and ready to be Rendered !

[ FINAL step ]

click to download

this is my final product...

[ tips ]

- Play with the light to obtain different angle of you object.
- Play with the parameters to obtain different results.

It was quite easy, but i hope you get a bit more knowledge to the textures now !
